UP Visayas opens Antique Extension Campus

The University of the Philippines Visayas has signaled the start of construction of a P50-million 3-storey building of the University of the Philippines’ Extension Campus in Brgy. Nauring, Pandan in Antique Province.

A groundbreaking and capsule laying ceremony was held October 4, 2020 following the Signing of the Deed of Absolute Donation at the Pandan Municipal Hall Lobby by owners Yolanda Batara and spouses Daughlet Ordinario who donated the 500-square meter lot.

Government officials in the Province of Antique attended the momentous event led by Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, Pandan town Mayor Plaridel Sanchez, and other LGU officials.

The UP Visayas delegation was headed by Chancellor Ricardo P. Babaran.

The establishment of UP Visayas Antique Extension Campus was aimed to democratize admission and bring UP closer to the community. The initiative was a brainchild of Deputy Speaker and Antique Representative Loren Legarda who provided allocation when she was yet a senator. Legarda joined the ceremonies via Zoom.

The premier state university’s presence in Antique will offer continuing education programs related to fisheries and entrepreneurship and research projects will also be conducted by researchers and scientists, among initial activities.

The design and plans for the UP Visayas Antique Extension Campus were facilitated by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Development led by vice-chancellor Martin G. Genodepa.
