The University of the Philippines Visayas Graduate Program Office (UPV-GPO) has been elevated to the UPV Graduate School (GS) by the UP Board of Regents (BOR).
The elevation in status was approved during the BOR’s 1370th meeting last April 28, 2022.
Currently, UPV’s graduate program offers a doctorate in fisheries, master of science programs, professional master’s programs, and a diploma program.
The GS shall be considered as one of the degree-granting units of UPV.
In its proposed organizational structure, it will be headed by a dean and assisted by a college secretary.
Graduate faculty shall be drawn from academic units of the University; and will be issued appointments to teach in the GS by the Chancellor.
The GS seeks to establish a research-oriented graduate education program, to systematically sustain and mainstream knowledge creation as a key priority in UPV’s knowledge creation and public service agenda, and to enhance its stature and recognition both within and outside the country.
Before the name change, the GS was renamed from the Graduate Program Coordinating Office to the GPO during the 1086th BOR Meeting on May 25, 1995. (Carlson B. Alelis, IPO)
