Iloilo City Tourism Devt Plan adopted

The Iloilo City Tourism Development Plan for the period 2020 to 2022 has been adopted.

The members of the Iloilo City Council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2020-627 adopting the 3-year plan as endorsed by the Local Chief Executive and by the Iloilo City Local Development Council through Resolution No. 20, Series of 2019.

The plan serves as a guide in attaining the highly-urbanized city’s vision of being a “Premier SMART City of Excellence” – SMART outlines the city’s growth priority areas: Service, Manufacturing and Agribusiness, Arts and Culture, Research Technology, Tourism.

It identified tourism and the allied sector of arts and culture as a significant industry to develop and to serve as a key for the city to become globally competitive.

The 134-page Iloilo City Tourism Plan aligned the development of local tourism as a cross-cutting theme in the 6-Point Agenda of the current administration called WHEELS – a development roadmap covering Welfare, Health and Sanitation, Education, Environmental Management, Livelihood, and Sustainability.

Although processed and developed before the pandemic, the six chapters document recognizes the critical development of  festivals promotions like the world-class Dinagyang Festival and the increasing growth of local tourism enterprises.

The city was gearing up its campaign as a top MICE (meetings, incentives, conference, and exhibitions) destination in late 2019.
