‘Women and War’ to be exhibited at CPU in Iloilo City

The Ilonggo audience will be able to view one of the rare exhibit which tackles the role that Filipino women have played during the dark period of World War II through the “Women and War: An exhibition on Women workers, warriors, and survivors of World War II.” 

 The exhibit will feature the various roles that Filipino women have played during the war – either as guerillas, spies, artists, writers and comfort women. 

The show will be brought to Iloilo City by Filipinas Heritage Library under the Ayala Foundation and it will be housed at the Henry Luce III Library of the Central Philippine University, one of the top university in Western Visayas.

The “Women and War” will bring back to public consciousness the condition of Filipino women during World War II. It will present the lives of women who were part of Liga para sa Lolang Pilipina (LILA) whose members were among forced to become the comfort women of Japanese soldiers.

The sad episode will be reminisced through photographs, video installations, texts and interviews. Some personal accounts will be highlighted by a short biography and personal effects of the victims. 

The various roles that were portrayed by Filipino women on the different wartime period will be provided focus to emphasize its significance and highlight its particular narrative, thus the exhibit will have five major parts, namely; Manunulat, Gerilyera, Obrera, Sibilyan, and Mga Lola.  

“Women and War: An exhibition on Women workers, warriors, and survivors of World War II” will be open to the public starting November 12 until December 12, 2019.
